Bellator MMA heavyweight Kimbo Slice was hospitalized in Florida on Monday, according to a report from TMZ.com.
The report offers scant details but cites multiple unnamed sources who claimed “the situation does not look good.” Law enforcement officials reportedly confirmed to the website that Slice -- whose real name is Kevin Ferguson -- was admitted to a hospital near his home in Coral Springs, Florida.
Slice, 42, is currently scheduled to face James Thompson in the main event of Bellator 158, which takes place July 16 at London’s O2 Arena. The bout is a rematch of their infamous May 2008 scrap under the EliteXC banner; Slice won that match via third-round stoppage.
Slice’s most recent appearance was on Feb. 19, when he recorded a late stoppage of Dhafir Harris -- a.k.a. “Dada 5000’ -- at Bellator 149. Harris spent more than a week in a Texas hospital after that bout, during which both men became exhausted and appeared on the verge of collapsing. The result was overturned last month after Slice was flagged for the anabolic steroid nandrolone, as well as elevated levels of testosterone.
